Abstract: Karl Adolph Wachsmann is a not well-known German author of the 19th century, however his literary production, focused on the genre of the Novelle, shows very interesting elements due to the influence he exerted on German authors and the influence of his translations, especially in the English literature. One of his short stories, Der Fremde, is a good example of we are mentioning. This is a vampire themed Novelle which introduces elements that configure the characteristics of the literary vampire in later texts, like Bram Stokers Dracula.
