Abstract

In this article, we present a proposal for an annotated edition of the eighteenth-century interlude El encanto y desencanto en la zanfoña y la Diferencia y Burla de las Lenguas, accompanied by a brief introductory study. This unpublished play is found in manuscript 8601 at the National Library of Portugal, in a notebook that belonged to an unknown Fr. ML, ‘Religious Preacher of S. Francisco da Província dos Algarves.’ This interlude is of great relevance for studies of short theater, since, in addition to being a bilingual work (in Spanish and Portuguese), it presents an equally unpublished plot. In this first edition of the play, in addition to modernizing the text, we provide pertinent information about the interlude genre, the typical characters present in the work, and the manuscript, which is dated 1712.

    Formou-se em Letras, com habilitação em Espanhol, pela Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (UFPE). Durante a graduação, participou de monitorias e desenvolveu projetos acadêmicos vinculados ao Programa Institucional de Bolsas de Iniciação à Docência (PIBID/CAPES) e ao Programa Institucional de Bolsas de Iniciação Científica (PIBIC/CAPES). Finalizou o curso com um trabalho voltado para a literatura espanhola. Em 2024, concluiu o mestrado no Programa de Pós-graduação em Letras (PPGL) da UFPE, com um projeto na área de literatura colonial. Atualmente, é doutorando em Estudos Literários pela mesma instituição, desenvolvendo uma tese sobre a literatura dramática hispano-americana do século XVIII. Paralelamente, atua como professor efetivo na Rede Estadual de Educação de Pernambuco, lecionando no Ensino Médio.

    Alfredo Cordiviola é Licenciado em Letras pela Universidade de Buenos Aires (1986), Mestre em Teoria da Literatura pela UFPE (1993) e Doutor em Estudos Hispânicos e Latino-americanos pela University of Nottingham , Reino Unido (1998). Completou um pós-doutorado na Universidade de Buenos Aires (2011-2012) e foi Visiting Scholar na New York University (2016-2017). É Professor Titular em Teoria da Literatura e leciona no Departamento de Letras e no Programa de Pós-graduação em Letras da Universidade Federal de Pernambuco. Pesquisador 1D do CNPQ, dirige o Grupo de pesquisa Estudos Coloniais Latino-americanos. Ocupa-se de um vasto conjunto de aspectos da literatura e da teoria, relativos em particular aos estudos latino-americanos, os estudos culturais e os estudos utópicos. Seus dois últimos livros publicados foram Objetos de memória. Materialidades do passado na America Colonial (2019) e A espera constante. Escrita e esquecimento no México do século XVIII (2021).
