This article proposes a reading of the novel Terra fria (1934), by Ferreira de Castro, author of Portuguese nationality, from the design of chronotope of Mikhail Bakhtin, with emphasis on the multiple meanings of the sign at the border that incorporates novel ethical and aesthetic values.
