In “Adonias”, a short story by Alberto Guzik, the main character, Adonias, is friends with a group of men whose leader defend the killing of social groups such as black people and gays, referring to them as trash. Along the narrative, an unknown man, a woman and a young man are victims of this character’s violence. Formal aspects of “Adonias” are analyzed, in this essay, in order to discuss how it delivers images related to the desire to kill, homophobia and fascism. According to our hypothesis, the aesthetic distance moves from an external perspective to the direct expression of the protagonist, bringing to the reader an ethical conflict and an aesthetic shock. Ideas from Theodor Adorno, René Girard, Paul Ricoeur, Ana Maria Lisboa de Mello and Anatol Rosenfeld are among the theoretical references for this study.
