In the current scenario of literary studies in Brazil, the discussion about realism is usually associated with the notes of critic Karl Erik Schollhammer, especially when the focus is on contemporary literary productions. In his work entitled Ficção brasileira contemporânea (2009), the critic makes considerations about the problem that have become well known in the Brazilian academic context. The objective of this article is to analyze how he approaches realism in a more recent attempt, the work entitled Cena do crime: violência e realismo no Brasil contemporâneo (2019). To achieve this aim, the study will attempt to understand the author’s position in relation to problems already established in this field of discussion and the typifications of realism proposed by him.
