Abstract: Gabriela Liffschitz (died 1983) was a particularly unique example of contemporary Argentine urban photography, as she devoted her work to chronicling her struggle against terminal cancer. Not only was she brutally frank in showing the consequences of cancer - a disease that particularly affects women and is often the consequence of the ravages of modem urban life- but in the process she produced a photography that defied the sexist male gaze of the eroticized female body.
Keywords: Liffschitz; Gabriela; mastectomy; male gaze; women’s body.
