O crime metafísico em Dostoiévski

Dostoiévski desenvolve em Crime e castigo uma análise da forma como a intelectualidade russa nos anos de 1860 compreendia a noção de crime, quase sempre sob a tese da determinação social. O niilismo contemporâneo a essa obra, defendida principalmente por Tchernichévski, propõe o desenvolvimento científico como instrumento de solução dos males sociais, o que levaria, inevitavelmente, à diminuição e, porventura, à extinção do crime. Aliada à tese do egoísmo racional, uma derivação do utilitarismo clássico, o maior conhecimento científico seria responsável por um autodomínio do sujeito e uma promoção do bem geral. Crime e castigo explora os limites dessas teses niilistas, explorando a profundidade espiritual do indivíduo e suas contradições internas.
