This article emerges from a statement and a narrative. The first, made by the CEO of a U.S. technology company, OpenAI, which created ChatGPT, suggests that teachers will soon become obsolete due to advances in artificial intelligence. The second narrative is presented by Mia Couto, recounting a childhood memory when one of his teachers, amidst the students, engaged in the same task he assigned. These events contrast two facets of teaching: one tied to efficiency and productivity, the other centered on a teacher sharing a human experience with students. This loving and character-forming approach aligns with the perspectives of Masschlein and Simons on love and Jorge Larrosa on character. This article aims to shift from the first perception of teaching towards Mia Couto's example, advocating for a self-aware teaching practice rooted in love and character. The intention is to assert the irreplaceability of such an approach.
