The present article is based on preliminary research related with the following theme: Social classes and academic performance of a group of History undergraduate students attending a Public University. It is intended to demonstrate, supported by research results, theoretical studies and other data, that in order to understand the meaning assigned by a group of young people to their chosen career as teachers it is important to consider their class origin, family expectations toward school and the characteristics of teaching as a career.
