Abstract

This paper presents new teaching practices in the vocational education context. We researched possibilities of applying the project method as an auxiliary pedagogical resource in the process of building up competences. The experimental background of our work is the curricular reform project of a technical course in which a curricular reorganization is taking place, according to the new guidelines for Vocational Education in Brazil, established in 1999. The methodological needs originated by the competence model are compared with the directives of the Project Method. By making this comparison we evaluate the possibilities of increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of the competence formation process using this methodology. The paper also presents a successful experiment in applying the Project Method and discusses the main results achieved.
