This article investigates the implications of gestures of display and concealment in the poetry of Ana Martins Marques. Frequently, the poet narrates and describes scenes in a laconic manner, leaving parts of their plots implicit. This encourages the reader to imagine what has not been said in relation to the memories and experiences conveyed by the poems, engaging in the act of co-creation. However, the presence of the implicit in Marques’ poetry also points to a performative use of language, more interested in producing images that are sufficient in themselves in their incompleteness than in aligning with a referential and functionally communicative orientation. Thus, the lapses intentionally projected by the poet enter into her aesthetic experience, dispensing with the completeness of meaning. In short, this study examines, in two ways, the use of implicit content in the poet’s lyricism, mobilizing formulations related to seduction, which consists precisely in disguise and the production of appearance.
