Amos Oz: A Prophetic work – a third eye in support of Human Rights

Abstract

Prophetic literature, produced by Jews in biblical times and incorporated into the Jewish Bible in the Nevi’im (Prophets) portion of the Tanakh, laid the foundations for the formulation of Jewish ethics, generally taking the form of reprimands against the people and/or rulers, denouncing deviations in behavior and demanding repentance, a return to righteousness; in modern times, this function has been assumed not only by political discourse but also by fiction literature. In the modern State of Israel, the writer Amos Oz, who recently passed away, was one of the leading exponents of this practice. In this article, we will seek, through the analysis of some of his works, to show the prominence given by Oz to this subgenre.
