After the French Revolution in 1789, Napoleon Bonaparte became the heir of the revolutionary ideas in Europe. The main political and military figure in France showed great sensibilities regarding minorities’ human rights. The Jewish communities which were subject to humiliation and depleted of resources in France, but also in Italy, motivated him to challenge old discriminatory laws, being able to extend equality rights to the Jewish faith.
