Abstract

In academia today, interdisciplinarity and transdisciplinarity are hot topics. The article explores the use of altmetrics, utilizing the Dimensions and Altmetric Explorer tools for data collecting and analysis to compare the influence of these components from an altmetrics perspective to the number of citations metric. The search phrases "interdisciplinarity" and "transdisciplinarity" were present in the title and/or abstracts of 2,089 "open access" papers published between 2014 and 2020. Numerous mentions of the themes were found in the altmetric study, and their expressiveness has grown over time. We found that altmetric indicators have a lot of potential as a supplementary technique for selecting scientific papers for systematic literature reviews. We saw an advantage of altmetrics over other indicators in terms of responsiveness to impact, the caliber of the audience reached, and scientific dissemination channels; a proposal that fits the current context and the production of knowledge in real time. The study proved the social impact of the papers on the topics under examination was relevant, and the altmetric indicators helped analyze how science affects society, thereby achieving the goal that was set. For a deeper comprehension and a more widespread use of this statistic within the academic community, we advise continuing study on altmetrics and disseminating the tools utilized here in other research procedures.
