Author Biography

Carlos Ernest Dias, University of Minas Gerais (Brazil)

Assistant Professor at the UFMG School of Music, where he teaches Oboe, History of Popular Music and Modernism, and Brazilian Music. He has played with the Minas Gerais Symphony Orchestra, the Brasilia National Theater Orchestra, and the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra. He has a Master's degree in Art Science from UFF, a Bachelor's degree in Oboe from UFMG, and is currently pursuing his Doctorate in Music at UFMG. In popular music, he works as an instrumentalist (oboe and saxophone), composer and arranger, having recorded the CDs Imagem (1999), which received the Pro-Music Trophy of Minas Gerais in the best arranger category. He was the curator of the series Cartografia Musical Brasileira (Rumos Itaú Cultural Música 2000 and 2001). He coordinated the UFMG Winter Festival (1993 to 1998), the UFMG Symphonic Band (2004 to 2008) and the I Encontro de Estudos da Música Popular Brasileira (2006). He is currently Head of the Department of Instruments and Singing (2011 to 2013).
