Order and preferred argument structure in spoken spanish from a functionalist perspective

Considering the position scheme proposed by Dik's Functional Grammar (1997), this paper aims to determine the positions occupied by the nuclear constituents subject and object, lexical or pronominal, in simple and declarative sentences with two- and three-place predications, as well as to describe the Preferred Argument Structure (DuBois, 1987) of this same context of analysis. To do this, the syntactic, semantic and pragmatic properties of the arguments are verified, as well as the quantity and role conditions of the PAS. The data shows that Spanish tends to comply with the presuppositions of the PAS grammatically and pragmatically, with both the V2 and V3 schemes featuring a transitive subject given in pronominal form and a lexical object containing new information. As for the possible position schemes, the most recurrent are P1/S V O and S V P0/O for V2, and P1/S c V O for V3. The corpus used is PRESEEA (Proyecto para el Estudio Sociolingüístico del Español de España y de América), specifically the surveys corresponding to the city of Alcalá de Henares, Spain.
