Vulnerability to accidents of the elderly inmates of the João de Freitas Spiritist Foundation, in Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais

Abstract

This is an exploratory and descriptive study on the circumstances and environmental factors that make the elderly inmates vulnerable to accidents. The objectives are: to identify the risk factors present in the asylum environment and to prepare an education proposal for the elderly and for the institution. Several factors were found which predispose these inmates to accidents. Falls were the most significant. These factors are related to the environment itself, which needs alterations to minimize or eliminate the consequences of accidents. Several collective education activities were carried out, such as: lectures, educational videos, posters and individual guidance.
