Risk for cardiovascular diseases among health workers of a public university hospital

Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are responsible for about 30% of deaths and are the main cause of morbid-mortality in the world. The present study aims to identify risk for cardiovascular diseases among health workers of public university hospital. It is a transversal and quantitative research, with a descriptive and exploratory approach that included 85 health workers. A structured questionnaire, named "Health Conditions Inventory" was employed. Data analysis was performed through Epiinfo 2004, using the V Brazilian Guideline of Arterial Hypertension as a theoretical reference. Results: the most prevalent risk factor was increased abdominal circumference followed by family history of CVD and arterial hypertension. After analyzing all risk factors for cardiovascular diseases we conclude that 23.5% of the participants have an average risk and 4.7% show high risk of developing cardiovascular diseases.Downloads
