Nurses' perception on hospital welcoming classified as Primary Health Care risk

Abstract

This is a descriptive and exploratory study using a qualitative approach carried out in a Basic Health Unit. Its goal was to analyze the nurses' perception on risk classification in the Primary Health Care in Belo Horizonte-MG. Workshops were held with the unit nurses approaching topics inherent to hospital welcoming and risk classification, followed by semi-structured interviews. Data were analyzed using Content Analysis which allowed the identification of three empirical categories: training of health professionals on risk classification; the implementation of risk classification in primary care; challenges to the implementation of risk classification in primary care. The study revealed that the nurses acknowledge risk classification as a tool for the systematization of nursing care as it allows the patients' evaluation according to a health problem, not taking into consideration the time of arrival at the clinic. According to the nurses the implementation of risk classification system will meet support as well as opposition. The study concludes that tackling such issue in the primary health care sector through workshops enabled the exchange of information among nurses. It contributed as well to the professional updating, conscientization, and staff motivation. The type of workshop was considered, by the nursing staff, as a pedagogical strategy, easily understood, interactive, playful and motivating.
