About the Journal

Focus and Scope

The Revista de Ciências do Estado – REVICE is a scientific student journal, the result of the bachelor's degree in Ciências do Estado (2008) from the Faculty of Law of the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais. REVICE had it's first issue published in July 2016, which inaugurated a new field of publications in the area of State studies.  As well as graduation, the Revista de Ciências do Estado presents a profile of intense interdisciplinarity, which starts from a political, legal and social knowledge and aims to foster a transversal dialogue with the various areas of knowledge in the Humanities.

REVICE has proved, in its short period of existence, to be an important center for scientific discussion, for both students and professors, which privileges the critical approach to problems, theories, doctrines and realities, becoming a space for the publication of studies of philosophical, historical, problematizing, theoretical or practical, within the State studies.

The Revista de Ciências do Estado also intends to build a qualified environment for the discussion of themes that require differentiated approaches and innovative methodologies, capable of facing the contemporary challenges that affect and often converge with the State, Politics, Citizenship, Strategic Studies, Public Administration and Governance; for this reason, works that value original and innovative connections in these fields of knowledge and that create connections and dialogues with previous articles from REVICE itself will be privileged.

Inspired by the division between the two courses within the bachelor's degree of Ciências do Estado, which are the Democratic State and Contemporaneity course and the Democracy and Social Governance course, REVICE accepts approaches from the local to the global. The Revista de Ciências do Estado intends to encourage undergraduate and graduate students to develop their research capabilities in the area, contributing not only to their academic training, but also to civil society.

The Revista de Ciências do Estado is classified by Capes as A4 in the Classification of Journals for the 2017-2020 Quadrennial.  e-ISSN 2525-8036 / ISSN 2595-6051.

Evaluation Process

Papers submitted to Revista de Ciências do Estado go through two stages of evaluation.

The first one is a preliminary assessment carried out by the Journal's direction that analyzes the adequacy of the papers to the journal's editorial line, its adequacy to the Journal's scope, the contribution and originality of the text, in addition to the formal aspects necessary to submission. Only papers considered relevant to the community and to the journal's readers proceed to the next evaluation stage, with a member of the Editorial Board being designated to continue the process. In addition, the works are submitted to the anti-plagiarism software provided by UFMG.

During the second stage - which is the pairs review process - the papers are sent to appreciation by two reviewers, members of the reviewers’ team, generally professors with a doctorate degree and preferably from outside the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, according to the double-blind system review, in order to guarantee both authors and reviewers critical impartiality and the intellectual freedom - elements without which there is no science. The evaluating criteria taken into consideration are the topic’s relevance, the originality of the contribution in the journal’s thematic areas, the clarity of the text, the adequacy of the bibliography, the structure and theoretical development, the methodology, and the conclusions and contributions offered to the area’s knowledge. Reviewers are able to approve the papers (and, even then, send suggestions), approve it with mandatory corrections (which will be forwarded to the authors), or refuse publication.

In the event of a controversy in the evaluation, a situation in which one evaluator's position differs from the other, the Editorial Board may give a final opinion or submit the work to a third evaluator, who will provide the tie-breaker position.

In omitted cases, the Management of the Revista de Ciências do Estado  alongside with the Editorial Board and, when necessary, with the Scientific Council, will arbitrate in accordance with REVICE’s ethics.

The Revista de Ciências do Estado pursuits to attend the standards of the Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES), Brazil,  for journals in order to keep the journal's qualification in the Sucupira platform.

REVICE's Team of Reviewers are carefully selected experts. The reviewer must fill in a uniform and objective form. A period of 04 weeks is granted for them to issuing the review. However, once the evaluation entirely depends on the reviewers’ convenience and goodwill, achieving a highly qualified and unpaid work, it is not possible to precisely establish the deadline for a final decision on each submission. Nevertheless, it is important to emphasize that articles submitted to the Revista de Ciências do Estado take, on average, six months to get a final response.

If accepted, the papers will be subject to a final spelling and grammar check by the members of the Editorial Board. This review is only intended to guarantee the quality of the writing of the published work, so the changes made are not intended to alter the style of the text or the content of the research. It should be noted that, if necesssary, the Editorial Board may return the work to the authors for approval of the revisions made.

The Rejection Rate of the Revista de Ciências do Estado is 19%.
