For Revista da UFMG#27.2, the theme of which is Disasters, a group of artists was invited, and their works are comments on some ecological disasters that have been taking place in the last decades in Minas Gerais, creating a visual narrative that interacts with the texts of Revista.
In the wake of this visual narrative, to accompany this issue of Revista da UFMG #27.3 Disasters, we invited the artist Ariel Ferreira to show records of his exhibition entitled Até aqui (Thus far) presented in 2019 at the Memorial Minas Vale in Belo Horizonte. Besides these records of the gallery, Diário de Bordo (Logbook) is also being displayed, registering the process of earth and rocks collection in municipalities around Belo Horizonte. The pigments extracted from the earth and rocks were used to make the dyes employed in the exhibit.
Ariel Ferreira was born in Montes Claros, State of Minas Gerais, in 1982. From year 2000 on, he establishes himself in the central area of the capital city Belo Horizonte, and begins his education at EBA/UFMG, where he completed his Master’s Degree (2009) and his Ph.D. Degree (2015). His poetic work makes use of many languages approaching the public space and the relation between nature and culture. He participated in several expositions and awards such as Bolsa Pampulha (2008) and Rumos Itaú Cultural (2009), which are among the most important ones.
Follows the presentation of the artist’s Até aqui that accompanies the exhibition, describing its steps.
