Abstract

In this article, the author questions the use of terms such as “global art” and “world art”, and purposes to think about a condition of “contemporaneity”, that involves three big currents emerged after 1989: one derived from Euroamerican modern, one based in the Post-colonial criticism, and one independent, concerned with the tentative explorations of temporality, place, affiliation and affect, the uncertain conditions of living on a fragile
planet.

Terry Smith, Universidade de Pittsburgh, Estados Unidos

Terence Edwin Smith, nascido na Austrália em 1944, é historiador da arte, crítico de arte e artista. Foi membro ativo do grupo de arte conceitual Art & Language entre 1972 e 1976, e atualmente é professor do Departamento de História da Arte da Universidade de Pittsburgh e professor visitante da Universidade de Sydney. Publicou numerosos artigos e livros, entre os quais Architecture of Aftermath (2006) e What is Contemporary Art? (2009)
