Abstract

This paper seeks to analyze The Clopen Door (2020), video art created by the visual artist Thiago Rocha Pitta, based on the fire that occurred at the National Museum in 2018. The piece was exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro as part of the work Opening Night, which also consisted of installing a kind of bonfire formed by a door surrounded by wooden logs, similar to the one seen in the video. Rocha Pitta refers to the museum by using the fire as a paradoxical element, in order to consider not only the fire episode, but the role of the exhibition space today.

Guilherme Carréra, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro

Guilherme Carréra é doutor em Cinema pela University of Westminster, com bolsa CAPES. É autor do livro “Brazilian Cinema and the Aesthetics of Ruins” (Bloomsbury Academic), vencedor do Prêmio da Associação de Investigadores da Imagem em Movimento (AIM, Portugal) e do Prêmio da British Association of Film, Television and Screen Studies (BAFTSS, Reino Unido). Atualmente, realiza pesquisa de pós-doutorado no Programa de Pós-Graduação em Comunicação e Cultura da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (PPGCOM-UFRJ), com bolsa CNPq.
