Professional training in Information Science in Portugal: challenges and prospects

Fernanda Ribeiro, current director of the Faculty of Letters of the University of Porto, has a degree in History from the Faculty of Letters of the same University, a diploma in Librarian-Archivist from the Faculty of Letters of the University of Coimbra, and a PhD from the Faculty of Letters of the University of Porto. She is currently a full professor in the Department of Journalism and Communication Sciences, and was chair of the same department between Feb. 2010 and Sept. 2014. She is dedicated to research related to the organization and representation of information, access and retrieval, especially in archives, and to theoretical and methodological issues in Information Science, as well as professional training in this same area. In preparation for the XVIII National Seminar on University Libraries (SNBU 2014), held in Belo Horizonte, the researcher, who attended the event as an international observer, gave an interview to the journal Bibliotecas Universitárias: pesquisas, experiências e perspectivas (RBU).
