The Fundamentals e a religião como ciência nos Estados Unidos (1910-1915)

Resumo

Este artigo investiga a relação entre ciência e religião na primeira fase do movimento fundamentalista cristão nos Estados Unidos. Para isso, será apresentada a controvérsia entre fundamentalismo e evolução; depois serão destacadas algumas ideias teológicas importantes para compreender o movimento fundamentalista e seus discursos; e, finalmente, serão analisados quatro artigos presentes na publicação The Fundamentals (1910-1915), obra de sistematização da teologia conservadora anglófona do período, que abordam o tema da evolução.

ABSTRACT:
This paper investigates the relationship between science and religion in the first phase of the Christian fundamentalist movement in the United States. For this, the controversy between fundamentalism and evolution will be presented; then some important theological ideas to understand the fundamentalist movement and its speeches will be highlighted; and finally, four articles which address the issue of evolution present in the publication The Fundamentals (1910-1915), a systematization of the conservative Anglophone theology of the period, will be analyzed.
