This paper focuses, under the perspective of biopolitics, the question of animals in J. M. Coetzee’s novels, with emphasis on Disgrace and The lives of animals, in order to show how the author, in a fictional way, not only criticizes the anthropocentrism of Western philosophy, but also explores the possible links between violence against animals and violence against humans. In this sense, he may be considered the contemporary thinker who, in the field of literature, has given more contribution to this debate.
