Abstract

In taking as its starting point the commentaries made by Samuel Beckett`s translators, the paper discusses and exemplifies the notion of translingualism, comprehended as a process of meaning-production between languages. Both the Polish translator of the text Sans/Lessness, Antoni Libera, and the Brazilian translator of How it is, Ana Helena Souza, insist on the importance of the presence of two texts and two languages as the sources of the translation into a third language. In this sense, both translators assert the subversion of the notion of the “original” and see the Beckett`s practice of self–translation, by which one language constantly comments the other, as inherent and indispensable to the creative process.

  • Olga Donata Guerizoli Kempinska, Universidade Federal Fluminense

    Olga Guerizoli Kempinska possui graduação e mestrado em Filologia Românica pela Uniwersytet Jagiellonski de Cracóvia e doutorou-se em História Social da Cultura pela PUC-Rio. Atualmente é professora de Teoria da Literatura no Departamento de Ciências da Linguagem da Universidade Federal Fluminense. Publicou em 2011 o livro Mallarmé e Cézanne: obras em crise. Tem experiência na área de Letras, com ênfase em Teoria da Literatura, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: estética da recepção, relação entre mímesis e emoções, poéticas do trans- e multilinguismo.
