Glossaries are rarely discussed in Translation Studies although they are a precious instrument, as they represent a valuable tool for the reader. In the glossary we can see how translators negotiates meanings, making paratext an important ethical space for creating meanings, besides being able to establish a dialogical relationship between the source text/culture and the target text/culture. Thus, this article verifies how glossaries are defined in paratextual approaches, and then present a case study, the glossaries of the Italian editions of Suor and of Jorge Amado: Romanzi (2002), starting from theories by Batchelor (2018), Genette (2009), Tahir-Gürçağlar (2002), Kovala (1996) and also of the post-colonial theories of translation by Robinson (2014) and Tymoczko (2006).
