The main characteristic of the avantgarde is rupture, often accompanied by fierce critique and a certain amount of scandal. If there is one figure in contemporary German-language literature whose reception is marked both by great anticipation for his new releases and by sharp reviews and comments on his publications, it is certainly Christian Kracht. Arrogant heir, homophobic and Nazi or questioning, (post-)ironic author and victim of an abusive upbringing? An analysis of what the critics affirm (and what others respond) and how Kracht has been using his own work and his lectures on poetics in 2018 to respond to this criticism may help us understand the interplay that takes place within the literary field, and how it influences the birth of the avantgarde.
