Abstract

This paper presents a report on an exploratory experience involving the use of Artificial Intelligence, more specifically, Large Language Models, for translating between the English/Portuguese language pair in an undergraduate translation practice course. Different tasks were proposed each week, exploring various textual genres and engaging with these models, to better understand their capabilities and limitations. Alongside the undergraduate course, a graduate-level course was also offered, in which an extensive discussion took place about new technologies and their implications for Translation Studies. These parallel courses influenced each other and engaged in significant dialogue, producing unexpected and surprising results, which are shared here with the aim of contributing to the ongoing discussion about this crucial moment in which technological advancement calls on us to reshape our didactic and professional practices in the field of translation.
