Abstract

Every literary work that is judged translatable for aesthetic or commercial purposes is written in a language variety (dialect) and tends to be an authorial text, written in a personal linguistic variety (idiolect). Highly regarded translations tend to reproduce a configuration similar to that of the original works, merging dialectal and idiolectal features. The imposition of a dialectal variety on translators by editors can considerably limit their creative capacity.
