This paper deals with the Greek Theater elements within the structure, characters, themes and motives of Gabriela Ynclan’s Your name could be Antigone (2009). The drama is an example of American Compromise Theater picking up the keys of Antigone and Oedipus myths in the Occidental tradition. The author proposes a political as well as feminist reading of Sophoclean plays, but mainly a humanist one. In fact, the piece was conceived in order to condemn the authorities for their dealing in the tragedy of the carbon mine at Pasta de Conchos (Coahuila, Mexico) in February 2006. A gas explosion caused the death of 65 workers who were buried alive and whose recue was never attempted. This paper also describes the genesis of the play by means of the work by NGO Cereal and its reception among the relatives of the workers.
