This paper analyzes Mario Bellatin’s narrative by approaching Gumbrechtian production of presence, Bataillean experiences of excess and Barthesian punctum, understood as aesthetic experiences open to the unexpected and the nonsense of life. Such experiences destabilize the normalization of knowledge and conducts by contesting occidental logic through a game between reality and fiction, symmetry and asymmetry, health and illness, life and death. One of the ways by which this game can be expressed is the use of photographs displaced from their referents, a noteworthy artifice to our analysis.
