This essay focuses on the issues concerning John Milton’s Paradise Lost and their relations to the representations of space in the epic tradition. This essay also develops a contrapuntal reading between literary space in the classical tradition of Virgil and Lucan, the space constitutive of empire associated with Tasso and Camões, and the internalized space as found in the epic poem of Milton, viz., paradise within.
