Abstract

This article analyses the use of metaphor and literality in the work of the French poet Emmanuel Hocquard. In both cases the author seeks to reflect on the poetic tradition clichés, at the same time that he challenges them using the two figures of speech critically. The present reading explores the poems “Deux étages avec terrasse et vue sur le détroit” and “Élégie VI”, in addition to the critical texts of the author that dialogue straightly with his poems, such as “Ma vie privée” and “La bibliothèque de Trieste”. The way Hocquard employs both resources operates a departure of the poetic persona from the enunciated text.
