This paper aims to analyze briefly the formal changes as well as the historical and cultural background which have contributed or determined critical discussions about the “death of the novel”, namely, the exhaustion of this literary genre within the range of modern and contemporary literary compositions. Thence, this analysis aims to explore if there is indeed a downsize or even a lack of creativity in the contemporary literary production, or if there is a deliberate and conscious attempt by authors from different origins and traditions in order to reformulate the structure of the novel.
