Abstract

This article aims to analyse the father-son conflict in the novel Heimatroman oder Wie mein Vater ein Deutscher wurde, written by the German writer Nicol Ljubic and published in 2006. During a trip with his father to revisit the immigration route to Germany, the narrator attempts to understand his relationship with his father. This article discussed such reflection around three aspects: (1) the perception of his father’s body and the affective memory, (2) generational and value differences and, lastly, (3) the cultural differences in their socialization process. All three points represent potential conflicts, which the narrator tries to solve.
