O objetivo do presente estudo foi investigar, sob uma perspectiva descritivista, como uma ferramenta de inteligência artificial generativa traduziria um trecho de uma obra de literatura de massa, pressupondo que este tipo de literatura seria menos desafiadora e complexa e, teoricamente, produziria resultados satisfatórios. Para este fim, um excerto do primeiro capítulo de The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, de Agatha Christie, foi traduzido pelo ChatGPT. Os achados da pesquisa indicam que o ChatGPT tem potencial para produzir traduções suficientemente coerentes; entretanto, também deixam claro o papel indispensável do tradutor humano, particularmente no desenvolvimento de prompts eficientes e no desempenho de um trabalho essencial de pós-edição.
