Abstract

The primary objective of this study was to understand the evolution of the Federal Technological University - Paraná (UTFPR) in the construction of its technological university model. With a focus on the Brazilian educational landscape, the method employed consisted of a critical analysis based on a synthesis of various studies on the UTFPR. This analysis combined different perspectives, such as historical, educational, and administrative, to form a broad, integrated, and updated view of the university's characteristics, challenges, and impacts. Through this study, it was observed that UTFPR has experienced a loss of identity, characterized by difficulties in maintaining practical teaching, effective applied research, active technology transfer, and significant technological extension. This phenomenon was discussed in relation to national and international trends in technological education. Moreover, a departure from the typical aspects of a technological university was identified, particularly in comparison with successful international models. The analysis concluded that the day-to-day operation of UTFPR diverges from its original technological model, tending more toward the characteristics of traditional universities. This deviation is discussed in terms of its implications for teaching, research, and innovation in the Brazilian context. As a result, a dysfunctional technological model for the Brazilian context is observed, necessitating a strategic review to realign UTFPR with its original mandate and the contemporary demands of technological education.
