The idea a new professionalism for teachers, based on their practical Knowledge, as proposed by Maurice Tardif, is criticized in the light of Andrew Abbott´s notion of professions. The final considerations demonstrate the need to revise the principles of the principles of the socio-professional statute of teaching based on the understanding that the educational sciences play an important role in the social construction of a new teaching professionalism.
