It is not new that Minas Gerais’s territory is permeated by mining structures. In communion with the immaterial aspects linked to them, these structures make up the cultural landscape of Minas Gerais and represent, in the material context, the importance of mining activity for economic development of the state and the country. Despite this, situations such as the recent crime-disasters like Fundão dam rupture - owned by Vale Mineração SA, Samarco Mineração SA and BHP Billiton, in the city of Mariana-MG - or Córrego do Feijão Mine Complex rupture - owned by Vale Mineração SA, in the city of Brumadinho-MG -, have warned of an unavoidable need for economic decolonization or, in other words, of the indispensability of the search for economic alternatives that are less harmful to the environment, to life and, therefore, to the environment. heritage in its broad sense. Based on these considerations, this study aims to highlight the challenges involved in the protection of mineiro heritage. This, in particular, in the face of events that, like the ones mentioned above, puts him in a permanent vulnerability situation.
