Female writing in the collection “Onze em campo e um banco de primeira”

Abstract

The present study analyzes forms of resistance in the collection: Onze em campo e um banco de primeira, published in 1998. In this study, we observe how Brazilian writers constructed their readings of Brazilian political, social, and cultural reality under the feminine lens of soccer. The work presents the perspective of thirteen writers and three women writers on the subject of football, with texts that go far beyond the four lines, as they express the effects of the end of the dictatorial regime on Brazilian society, in addition to questions about politics, culture and the passions surrounding football. We will stop to analyze the short stories: Aguenta Coração, by Hilda Hilst; Escanteio, by Ana Maria Martins; and Que horas são?, by Edla Van Steen, in search of understanding how the theme of football will be narrated to express various other forms of resistance to social authoritarianism and resistance in their writings, and how the authors construct meanings and resistance in a field theme, in which women have still been sidelined and subordinated, in this sense, we will also deal with the recovery of the debate about the prohibition of women's football in 1941, as a result of the expansion of women's participation in sport, evidenced in the newspapers, due to the of the first matches in the state of São Paulo.
