Here we discuss the importance of transmitting the inimaginable aspects of the Shoah through cinema compared to literature. Through the analysis of three films, Shoah (Claude Lanzmann, 1985), Respite (Harun Farocki, 2007) and 1945 (Ferenc Török, 2017), we reflect on the practice of transmission in the work of Primo Levi (1919-1987). The assembly of debris connect cinema and literature through the testimony of genocide. We observe how remnants of objects found, which survived the atrocious destruction of a people’s culture, are revisited and support the resurgence of memory.
