Abstract

The work presented here attemps to reconstruct the meaning of a curius biblical expression: Is Saul among the nabies?, which appear in two different glosses: I Samuel 10 and I Samuel 19. To this end, we review the characteristics that can be reconstructed from these Nabis expressed in the saying, which seems to have been associated with ecstatic movements, group choreography and rituals of sacrifice and divination, related with specific dates. Delving into these dates, rituals and especially the concept of possesion of the spirit of Yahwéh, suggests the hypothesis that they expressed the existence of a pre-Deuteronomic Yahwist religion, whose manifestation faded or were deslegitimized with the imposititon of the priest code. In this way, the expression aludes to the disciplinary need to avoid indecent practices that are now considered sin and abomination, as wll as the consternation and fear aroused by ancestral rituals, which are intended to be repressed or adapted to new practices, from exilic and post-exilic religious
