The presence of the Bible in Honoré de Balzac’s work is still a topic investigated by a small group of researchers. In an attempt to fill this gap, this article aims to highlight some of the resonances of The Book of Exodus in The Human Comedy, specifically in the books The Physiology of Marriage and Louis Lambert. In this novel, according to Marthe Robert, Madame de Stäel, great lady of French literature, plays the role of the daughter of the pharaoh who saved little Moses from the waters. Based on Balzac’s writings, the analysis developed here seeks to highlight the symbolic legacy that the biblical prophet Moses would have left, according to the novelist, to science, and above all, to literature and philosophy.
