An linguistics approach for mapping verbal meaning in thesauri

Abstract

The conceptual system on thesauri is built from semantic relations. The refinement require their explanation, when they are evoked by verbal expressions, according to studies by Soergel et al. (2004), Lauser et al. (2006) e Maculan (2015). In this context, it’s necessary to consider verbal valences, which refer to semantic values that verbs can emanate, being necessary to impose restrictions in order to control the meaning with a given domain. In the face of comprehension difficulty about verbal semantic valence, this study seeks to contribute to problem understanding, beginning from two Linguistic inputs: the Verbal Valence Theory and the Qualia Structure, a question initially raised by Maculan (2015). The methodology uses Content Analysis, corpus development criteria, compilation technology, the analysis for the attribution of verbal valency and the Qualia roles and the verification of the real meaning in a given thesaurus. The results confirmed the contribution of the arguments in the identification of the semantic relations between objects.
