Márcio Borges

Márcio Hilton Fragoso Borges (Belo Horizonte, January 31, 1946) is a Brazilian lyricist and member of the artists' collective known as Clube da Esquina. He is the co-author of several famous compositions with Milton Nascimento and his brother Lô Borges. He was born into a very musical family - his father played some guitar and his mother sang in choirs and played the piano. He is the second of 11 children, many of whom are also involved with music, and considers his older brother Marilton Borges to be the great influence in his life. As a teenager he moved to the Levy Building in downtown Belo Horizonte, where he met his neighbors Wagner Tiso and Milton Nascimento, who became his great friend and musical partner. Márcio wrote the lyrics for Clube da Esquina, his first partnership with his brother Lô Borges. Later on, this song would give its name to two records and to the Clube da Esquina movement, of whose founding nucleus Márcio is one of the pillars and main lyricists. In 1996 he wrote the book Os sonhos não envelhecem - Histórias do Clube da Esquina. In 2001 he wrote a children's book called Os 7 falcões. He currently resides in Belo Horizonte and is the director of the Clube da Esquina Museum, of which he is the creator.
