Author Biographies

Elis Regina

Elis Regina de Carvalho Costa was born in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, on March 17, 1945. She started singing, when she was eleven years old, on the program "No Clube do Guri", on Farroupilha Radio, hosted by Ari Rego. In 1960 she was hired by Rádio Gaúcha. That same year she was elected "Best Radio Singer".

Chico Buarque

Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1944, Chico Buarque is one of the leading names in Brazilian Popular Music and the composer of iconic songs. Singer, songwriter, writer, playwright, Chico Buarque is one of Brazil's leading artists. In addition, he is an intellectual and active personality in politics.

Francis Hime

Composer, pianist, arranger, conductor and singer. He began studying piano at the age of 6, with professor Carmen Manhães, at the Conservatório Brasileiro de Música, in Rio de Janeiro. From 1955 to 1959, he studied in Lausanne, Switzerland, and developed an interest for erudite romantic music, which would later mark his production.
