Abstract

This paper is a review of the book: Iris RUMIAN and Ponciano RUMIAN. 2020. Wechemapu. Autobiography of an Imaginary. Osorno: Editorial Universidad de Los Lagos. 221pp (ISBN: 978-956-6043-25-6). This is a three-part overview. First, an introduction on the context of the Wechemapu band and the authors of the book. This is followed by a summary of the main aspects of the book's content. Finally, I present a critical reflection on the contributions and challenges of the book and its implications for musical research.

Author Biographies

Ignacio Soto Silva, University of Los Lagos, Chile

gnacio Soto-Silva holds a PhD in Musicology from the University of Valladolid and the Complutense University of Madrid. His line of research is related to the study of musical practices in the popular and traditional context and music education from an intercultural perspective. He is a member of the study group on Music and Dance in Latin America and the Caribbean of the International Council for Traditions of Music and Dance (ICTMD) - and is president of the National Committee of ICTMD in Chile. He is currently an Associate Professor at the Department of Humanities and Arts of the Universidad de Los Lagos, where he coordinates the research group GIAP10/21 "Music, culture and territory: debates on musical research from the regions" and is principal researcher in the Millennium Nucleus in Musical and Sound Cultures (CMUS).

Myriam Núñez Pertucé, University of Los Lagos, Chile

Myriam Nuñez holds a bachelor degree in Music Education at the Universidad Austral de Chile. Postgraduate in Choral Conducting at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and Master in Music Performance and Research, Universidad Internacional Valenciana. She is currently an assistant professor at the Department of Humanities and Arts at the Universidad de Los Lagos. She has served as Director of choral groups in the Los Ríos Region, both for children, young people and adults.
