Analytical reflections on how Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations fit into the epicenter of one of the most exciting techniques of musical composition. Departing from a plural approach, it discusses important aspects of harmony, analysis, music history and art history. In the context of theme and variations genre with developmental character, the cryptogram manifest by the composer himself receives here a novel suggestion for a solution.
